2009

It's been a really long time since I posted anything on this blog.  I actually set up an account on another website, but I don't get on that one too often either.  I guess I'm  not really meant for blogging, but it's always cool to come back and read my previous entries.

There have been lots of changes in my life, including work, boyfriend, and outlooks.

Work
Work has always been up and down for me since I've found myself switching schools for the last two years.  I do still miss my first school, but know that I made a good choice in leaving when I did.  My school from last year had lots of prestige and the parents were supportive, but the admin wasn't the best.  Things were often done last minute and there were often lots of different demands going on to the teachers.  I couldn't stand some people I worked with, so I decided that I needed to get out when I had the chance.  I didn't think I was going to get hired anywhere, but I fortunate to have gotten placed pretty early during Spring Break of last year.  I really enjoy my school now and although I changed grade levels (again), I feel content with what I have.

Boyfriend
Justin and I had been dating for almost 6 years until we finally called it quits in February 2008.  I had been pushing for a proposal, but in the end, I knew that he wasn't ready for something really serious.  I also found that I couldn't really trust him since he had kept lots from me.  In the end, things came out for the better.  The breakup was harder on him than it was for me, but I think it's because I knew how I felt for a while...I wasn't happy, so I realized that marriage wouldn't have been a good decision for us in the long run.  I had gone a few dates with several guys shortly after the breakup and found someone I am truly compatible with.  I've been dating another teacher for about 7 months now, and although it's somewhat of a long-distance relationship, we're trying to work things out for the best.  He'll be back on the island for next school year, so I'm hoping things will continue to flourish then.

Outlooks
Several of my close friends got married this year and I've always felt that getting married is the end of the rainbow, but now I don't feel that way anymore.  I think my relationship with Justin really changed that and reminded me that no matter how long you're with someone, you can still fall out of love with that person.  I felt that I was holding on to something since we had been together for so long and it was just comfortable, but I found that it's better to get out if you're unhappy since in the end, you don't want to make someone else unhappy with foolish decisions.

I doubt anyone even reads this blog anymore, but I'll try my best to keep up with it...

It's Been a While

I didn't realize how long it's been since I last updated my Xanga.  Anyway, at a new school and enjoying it very much.  The first semester passed by so quickly and now I have to go back to work tomorrow...no kids though.  They come back on Monday, but I won't be there b/c the whole school is participating in this professional development thing for math.  I'm kind of bummed not to be seeing my kids, but I may bump into some of them during the day.  I wonder who my sub will be?

Although we did have three weeks off, there's still so much to do.  I made a checklist during the first week of vacation.  There were about nine things on there and out of the nine, I only got 2 things completely done!  Yikes!  I know I have a full day tomorrow to putz around my classroom, but I know I'll get distracted and start talking story with some of the other teachers...or fool around with things that aren't necessary.  I'm going to try and go in this afternoon before going to work out.  We'll see if I get around to doing that....

Vegas Review

Well I'm back a day later to write about my Vegas trip.  Overall, it was a good trip and the weather wasn't too bad.  I checked out a LV website and found that yesterday, the temp was 116!  I couldn't believe it!  Well, here's my trip, in a nutshell:

Saturday night:
Landed at about 5:45 in the afternoon Vegas time and went to our hotel, the Main Street Station.  It was my first time staying there and I was happy to see how nice the room was.  The only drawback was the small counterspace.  At the California, the counter was long, so it was easy to organize all my toiletries.  Anyway, Jus and I settled in and then we went down to meet the group at 777.  We waited a while for our food since there were a lot of us...I think there were 12 people.  Also, no one told the waitress to separate the bills, until she came around for our food orders.  I ended up having to tell her...anyway, so we ate and went to gamble afterwards.

Sunday:
Woke up early to catch the free shuttle to Sam's Town...boys gambled on the tables while the girls played video poker and slots.  I made a few dollars on a quarter machine there, but forgot my water bottle by the machine.  :(  So, we made our way to the Paris buffet, where the food was really awesome!  I was sad I wasn't able to eat a crepe though...I figure there's always next time.  We did some sight-seeing afterwards and went to TI at about 4 to get ready to watch Mystere.  It was ok...there were a lot of really cool acrobatic type performances.  I loved the comic relief, which included a huge baby and a clown.  We went back to the hotel via taxi and ate at the California for dinner.

Monday:
Had breakfast at the Main Street buffet and caught the double-decker bus to the Strip.  We got off the bus at the Mandalay and went through the casinos and ended up at NYNY ESPN Zone for lunch, which was ok.  It seemed a bit pricey...but it was food and we were all hungry by then.  We meandered around through the different casinos around the area until around 7:30, then we got ready to watch the Tournament of Kings at Excalibur.  The show was ok, but there were a lot of holes.  Also, the food was a bit dry and salty for me.  After the show, we caught the bus back to our hotel.  It was a tiring day...

Tuesday:
Jus rented a van for us and we were able to fit 9 people in a 7-passenger van.  We basically went to some shopping malls, In-N-Out, and Trader Joe's.  Then we got back to downtown and got ready to go to Lawry's, which is known for their prime rib.  Since I don't really care for red meat, I ended up getting the fish of the day, which was this shrimp-stuffed salmon, which was really good as well.  The only downfall of the day was that I wasn't able to redeem my coupons for free food since we got back too late.  :(  No card cookies for me.

We came back home on Wednesday and it was actually nice to feel the humidity again.  My lips weren't dry anymore and it's nice to have smooth skin again.  :)  I can't wait until the next trip...

23 More Days Left of Vacation

I can't believe how quickly the vacation has gone by.  I could still remember counting down the days for the school year to be over.  Soon, I'll be in my new classroom with a whole set of different students.  So far, I've been able to move my things into my room, but my classroom furniture is all over the place and the teacher before me didn't make a classroom map, so I had to do one myself.  Let's hope it'll be ok in the end.

I will be back later to write more about my second trip to Vegas...

First Vegas Trip Down

one more trip to go.  I can't believe I already leave on Saturday.  I didn't realize I booked myself in the same seat as the first trip.  I hope the flight crew is different or they don't recognize me.  Hehe...I'm sure it'll be the latter since they see so many people on a daily basis.

Anyway, this past trip was nice.  It was nice to get away and see bright lights all around you.  :)  My mom and I didn't have a chance to go and walk the strip though.  The heat was a bit much.  I have to remember to bring sunscreen for this coming trip.   I did a lot of damage at the shopping malls spending quite a bit of $ on new outfits.  I feel it's justified though since most of the outfits are for work.  I'll probably not spend as much this time around, unless new things are on sale.

This coming trip will be exciting since I'll be watching a real Vegas show.  I've heard so many things about Mystere, so I hope it lives up to its expectations.  I will also be going to watch the Tournament of Kings, which will also be interesting since I went to see it when I was about thirteen or so.

Tomorrow, I plan on going to my new school to check out the campus and find out where my room is.  I've been waiting to that for a while.  It'll also be nice to get a feel of where everything is, like the recess area and the cafeteria.  I don't want to walk into school blind and having the kids tell me where things are.  Talk about loss of credibility.  :p
